VCIOM: 60% of Russians see ruble falling to 63 against US dollar

MOSCOW, Nov 7 (PRIME) -- More than 60% of people polled by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) expect the ruble to fall against the U.S. dollar to 63 in three months, according to a report seen by PRIME on Tuesday.

About 49% of people think that the ruble will fall even deeper, to 64.

“Some people think that when answering the question on the U.S. dollar rate in the foreseeable future, our respondents are guided by the present rate,” Senior Expert Consultant Oleg Chernozub said, as cited in the statement.

“Yet, the current rate has been below 60 for about a year, and the public opinion is stubbornly putting it at 63–65 rubles per dollar. This means that the Russians tend to see the current rate as somewhat overheated and expect its weakening.”

The research center also said that 58% of the respondents are interested in the ruble dynamics, while a year ago the figure amounted to 43%.

The poll showed that about 65% of the respondents keep their savings in rubles with only 5% having savings in dollars, 4% in euros and 1% in other currencies.

About 32% of the respondents said that they have no savings compared with 43% and 39% of people who said they have no savings in 2015 and 2016 correspondingly. In 2009, 66% of respondents had no savings.
